Happy New Year, belated

And to think I prayed today

And even after prayer,
not a month into the year
and someone I knew has died

Just years following his friend
who met the same end
pain multiplied

This time no last words
No written wishes unheard
just a silent passing

Another day to morn
another family torn
another everlasting
